Background information:
In the prosperous provincial towns, trading centers for rural areas, notables were building appropriate housing. Think of the doctor, notary, mayor and bank managers.
The property “Grotestraat 150” was originally built around 1860. Currently it is used as an attorneys office and is a Local Monument.
Architectural details:
Richly decorated facades had to spread the wealth. Side and rear were kept simpler.
The façade was right on the street, they had no front yard. There was (and is) a backyard containing two outbuildings. One of them is described as; "a small coach house under gable roof. In the side round arch windows with metal frames".
The house has a flattened hipped roof with Dutch tiles.
