Background information:
This 1928 building was built according to the principles of what we nowadays describe as homes of the '30s. The property with a total utilization area of approximately 62m² is of modest size. For this purpose all meters are counted in rooms where the minimum height measure is 1.5 meters. Important detail with slanted roofs in, for example, the bedrooms. Markenburg has chosen to build the property as it was in 1988.
One of the long facades is on the property boundary, which is also the reason why there are no windows.
Architectural details:
In the decades of 1920 and 1930 there were relatively many people who could build a quality house. Steep roof surfaces, often about 60 degrees, usually start at a height around 4 to 6 meters, which usually means halfway through the first floor. Orange red (mostly) Dutch tiles, carved gutters, sometimes fitted with wooden supporting bobbins in combination with large roof overlay. Red-brown masonry in cross, Flemish or stonebond. A high ground floor of about 2.6 meters. Bedrooms slightly less high, often around 2.3 meters. And a carefully designed line play with the horizontal lines often playing a leading role.
This house, with crossbond, meets all these typical "years 30" features. Until the end of the 1980s there were also two matching chimneys, which were removed at a later renovation.
The ever present ornamental carpentry in the tip of the façade gives the property a little extra cachet.
