Background information:
Slates are used as roofing in many European countries. There are also numerous examples in which the slates clad the facade. Particularly in modern architecture, we even see examples in which a building is completely covered with this material. We see slate roof and / or cladding mainly in countries such as Germany, France and Belgium. In the Netherlands it is less traditional because slate does not occur in Dutch soil and the clay, for baked roof tiles, can be found easily.
