Background information:
As can be expected from a building from 1899, it has a rich history. Standing inconspicuously in a row of buildings of the same age, on a church square in Zwolle, as far as is known, it has always had a shopping function on the ground floor. There has been an upstairs apartment on the floors since the beginning. However, the details do change with some regularity. The last renovation took place in 2017. The music store that until then used the commercial space did so on the entire ground floor. The restaurant, which is now located on the ground floor, actually has slightly less space. Because with the renovation, the front door of the upstairs apartment, including the stairs behind, has been brought back and restored to its former glory.
Architectural details:
With the renovation of 2017, the façade has been considerably refurbished. As a result, the new joints in the brickwork in particular contrast beautifully with the now-old bricks. The front has also been thoroughly tackled and restored to its former glory. The roof tiles have been replaced and the details of some of the window frames in the upstairs apartment have also been addressed. The roof contained an outdated skylight that has since been replaced by a modern, sleek, dormer window. Nevertheless, the building exudes authenticity, even with the last adjustments made. Which fits perfectly in the old center of the city of Zwolle.
