Background information:
The "Overlaatbrug" is a bridge, mostly over wetlands. This kind of bridges were build over small rivers, marshes and swamps. The biggest bridges were over 880 meters with 53 identical spans. Most bridges of this kind were shorter. Some of those bridges are still to be found in the Dutch landscape. They might be in use as bicycle-bridge.
Architectural details:
The abutments of the bridge consist of brick masonry accented with natural stone elements. The pillars are in matching style. The girders consist of wrought that is riveted to each other in a multitude of cross-links. The bridge girders are partly in the head, so that the bridge deck is aligned with the deck of the bridge head. This is the track surface. Some roadbed can be made upon the abutments. The bridge is suitable for double track with free span of about 90mm (scale 1:160). In each abutment is a tunnel with a width of approx 9mm. In the tunnel is a possibility to put in 2 lightbulbs.
