Background information:
The Markenburg curves can be used to construct a sidewalk at a crossroads. The pavements, and if desired the water gutters, can be ordered as ready-made parts. The roadway can be cut or cut from one of our pavement plates of your choice.
Architectural details:
In the Netherlands we have three commonly used solutions to turn a pavement around the bend. In modern times we often see that a sidewalk straight ahead until the curved curb requires that tiles be sawn. Then the connection is turned to 90 degrees and one continues in the same way. The Markenburg pavements are based on a principle that was often used in the 1930s till 1960s, and still occurs today. The pavement is stopped at the start of the bend and the bend is laid with half tiles in the desired radius. The narrow tiles give smaller seams in tight curves. After the bend, the well-known half/half stone bonding in 30 x 30 tiles is continued.
