More information

Background information:
An example of this simple concrete barrier still stands proudly in 2024 on the edge of the Kontich-Lint platform (between Antwerp and Mechelen). There it prevents people from falling onto the street at the rear edge of the platform, which is approximately 50cm lower. The model is simple in nature, but functions the same as the more well-known concrete barriers. The technology also works the same. Posts are placed in dug holes and the beams actually hang in slots in the posts. The advantage of the reinforced concrete elements is their long lifespan without maintenance requirements.

In the Netherlands we talk about a fence, or if it needs to be a bit neater, a boundary fence. In Flanders people seem to be talking about a closure more quickly. Yet we are all talking about the same thing. On this website we match the name to the location where the model can most often be found, or has been.
